Dr. Lisa N. Owen is an Assistant Professor of Art
History at the University of North Texas. Her research centers on Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut temples.
Dr. Owen is interested in the ways that sacred space is articulated in this medium and what this means for worshippers
and devotional practice. Her interests also include the production of imagery in ancient India, patterns
of patronage, and how visual forms express certain religious values and goals. Dr. Owen has presented her
work at numerous venues, the most recent being the University of Oxford and the School of Oriental and African Studies at
the University of London. She has published her work in the Journal of the International Association
of Buddhist Studies and in the Jain journal Jinamanjari.
